I am trying to determine what size central air conditioner I need for my home? 
My home is 3265 square feet and would like to know what size central air condioner I require. I believe it would be somewhere between 3ton and 3.5ton. Does anyone know how to determine?

To size the ac system for your home, you really need to pay for a professional to perform a load calculation. There are many, many factors that will both increase & decrease the required cooling btu/h, well beyond the square footage of the space. Some of these include, what style home you have, is it sided, brick, etc. What type of insulation is in the walls, attic, & how much? What type of windows are there, how many, facing what directions, etc. There are other factors as well. Is your duct system sealed, insulated? These are all just examples of some of the factors that should be considered. If you truely want an efficient home, I would start with a blower door test. You can google blower door testing. A great place to start some research for your information gathering is the BPI,(Building Performance Institute), website. Another is the Federal Governments, Energy Star website. If your home needs it, I would get the duct sealed and insulated, seal & add insulation to any other areas that may be lacking, to get the home as tight as possible,(see thermal envelope), then get a professional load calculation ran. Depending on the area of the country you live in, increasing the evaporator coil a 1/2 ton may be an option to consider. This is certainly not a guess at it game. oversize your equipment or undersize your equipment and you will have poor humidity control, stress on system components, premature failures of parts and motors, etc. Hope this was helpful & best of luck!
