  1. I got a 2,850 dollar check in the mail from a scam.?
    Hi

A scam for a house cleaning job i applied to sent me this check after i declined it, figuring out it was a scam.

They wanted me to purchase things for their house using part of this money after depositing it into my account.

If I had, what would have happened. If I had cashed it, what would have happened?

Yes it's a scam. I got one once where someone wanted to buy a timeshare off me. Deposit the check and send half to his lawyer that way he could save time and just do one check. The check he sent me had a number on the check that didn't even match the check number at the bottom of the check. The way it works, he's planning on you sending someone ( him ) funds from your account but the original check he gave you is worthless. Thus you send out money and get none in.

If you had cashed the check, it would have initially appeared as if the funds were available in your account, but the check would eventually bounce as it was fake. This would leave you responsible for the full amount, plus potential bank fees, and the scammers would have gained access to the money you spent on their behalf. Always be cautious with unsolicited checks or job offers that seem too good to be true.

The check would have bounced and you would have been held responsible to pay the bank back for the amount of the check.
