If you are doing the job yourself, it is best to tear out the old carpet first. Then paint the walls and trim. Finally, install the new carpeting. You will probably have to touch up the baseboard in spots but that will be much easier than trying not to get paint on the carpet, or fuzzies on your paint brush when painting the baseboard.

Paint after the carpet has been taken out, and touch up after the carpet is installed. Installing carpet will leave marks all around the trim and lower portion of the walls. Just schedule the carpet guys to take out the carpet enough time before the painting is scheduled.

it depends on if you are painting the woodwork or not. if you are painting them, then get the carpet out. there will be carpet fibers probably painted stuck to the baseboards. make sure you scrape all that junk off and sand before you paint again. if you are not doing the woodwork, then leave the carpet in if you want. maybe better on your knees if you are a do it yourselfer. me, a professional, i would take all of the old out, vaccuum real good and then do all of the painting. this way, when the carpet installer installs and bangs up the fresh paint like they always do, you will be able to touch it up easily with the fresh new paint.
all you do it your selfers are putting us professionals out of business ! but good luck to you !

Unless you enjoy cleaning and trying to get accidental paint stains out of a new carpet, then you can go right ahead and paint after you place a new carpet. But as a professional cleaning company we would advise to paint before you put in new Carpet, and before you put in that new carpet, let the paint dry completely.

Do all your wall and trim painting first, you can first coat your base board first if you plan on painting two coats, if you are only painting one coat on your base board wait till the carpet is laid. Professional carpet layers can and will lay your carpet with out messing up your walls. Just in case your new carpet has a lower profile than your old carpet it is always best to paint the base board last, I have been doing quality painting and home repairs with a passion for quality for over 29 years.

We recommend rip up, painting, and then get your carpet installed. Rip up the carpet and clean up any debris with a vaccuum. Paint the room and let it dry completely before installing carpet. You might have to touch up baseboards but thats a little easier to swallow then ruining your new carpet with paint!

always paint first, then do the carpet/other finish flooring.
Reason: paint will absolutely get on your floor, so it is best to treat your finish flooring with great care.
If you are installing any wood flooring that has to be sanded in place, do that before painted, because the dust in the air will coat your walls and other surfaces. However, once you have finished your wood flooring, protect it with construction paper and tape the edges so that any painting does not stain the floor.

You would not want to do both at the same time carpenters would get in the way of each other. You would also have wet paint getting scratched. It is best to paint at least a few days before the carpet goes in so the paint has plenty of time to cure and will not scratch when the carpet is installed.
