loft insulation question - is it better to remove old squashed insulation before adding 300mm insulaton on top?
not sure what to do here. Old house has really old and decripit insulation between the joists. I think its the air between the glass fibre that sustains the insulation. Would it be better thento remove the couple of inches of old insulation before properly installing new 100mm insulation and then followed by 200mm across perpendicular to it...Better trying to stop the heat at the plasterboard rather than letting it pass thriu only to be stopped bya wall of 300mm at joist level surely? comments please

It doesn't hurt to leave the existing insulation and removing it would be a difficult task. Just put more on top of it.
