This improved self-regulation of brain-wave activity transfers into improved self-regualtion of emotions, behaviors and cognitive functioning. We offer several different types of neurofeedback, and they all work a little differently. In general, neurofeedback begins with a client interview and an assessment of brain-wave activity. This information from the assessment and the client's reported symptoms are referrenced to specific brainwave patterns often associated with different types of symptoms. This gives us an idea as to what patterns may be affecting your emotions, behavior, attitude or cognitive functioning. Togther, this information is used to guide neurofeedback training, as far as the type of neurofeedback, location(s) of traning and what kind of response we would like to see. During neurofeedback, your brain activity is monitored through sensors placed on the scalp. You are provided live "feedback" in regard to your brain activity. Depending on the type of neurofeedback you are engaged in, you may be engaged in various activities, such as playing a video game, watching a movie or doing homework. The goal is to reward certain brain activity so you can learn to produce more of the desired activity when appropriate. Rewards are provided through visual and aduitory feedback. Over time, you associate the preferred activity level with positive outcomes, which makes the particular activity more readily available when needed.
