  1. Should I pay a terrible contractor who only damaged my home?

My wife and I had a bathroom drain leak where water would come out from underneath our vanity. We used our home warranty to have a "plumber" come out and take a look at it. He identified it as the sinks leaking underneath the vanity. So he tore out some of the wall underneath the sinks. Unable to get to the drains there, he then tore a hole about 3ft high by 1ft wide on the exterior of our home all the way through to the bathroom. He couldn't find the leak so he recommended busting our slab as he thought the problem was there. We decided to get a 2nd opinion so we called a friend who has plumbing experience. In less than 5 minutes he found that the SHOWER drain was leaking under the shower, flowing into the walls, and since the baseboards are sealed well, finally making it's way out underneath the vanity. So now we have a large hole through our house from this other guy who only damaged our home. We have opted for the check from our home warranty, since we now have to pay a mason to correct the hole and we don't want this other guy touching our home again. My question is, should we pay the guy who put a hole in our wall? What happens if we don't?

Well, if you don't then he could put a lien on your house. On the other hand it does sound like this guy is an idiot. If he threatens to or does put a lien on your house tell him you will call your local news stations. If the threat does not work call them, they love stories like this and he would not stand up in court as it sounds like he did not follow standards of practice.

Take photos of what he did and tell him you are sending them to the state agency that holds his license, if he bothers you.
