ALWAYS ASK what the fees for the services are, before they commence on your returns, no matter which service you go to! I have heard through several clients (former, but back with me now!) that H & R Block refused to give them their paperwork back after the preparation services and when the clients were told the fees, they were shocked and asked for their filing documents back, W-2's 1098's etc. Supposedly, H & R has a satisfaction guaranteed program, but it apparently doesn't extend to their pricing structure! One client was charged over $350 for her return, H & R filled out 2 less forms than I did for her previous years return, and charged her well over 2 TIMES what my fee to her was the previous year, all because she got a $25.00 off coupon through her employer's W-2 envelope! And the fee was AFTER the $25 off! It doesn't hurt to ask! Comparison shopping is the American way, don't just assume that you are getting the best service, OR price! Also, check with your peers, find out how long they have been using their current preparer. I file over 14 states each year for clients who have moved away from the Atlanta area, as they like what I do, as well as how I do it. I guarantee 25% off of whatever perparation fee any new client paid the previous year. I can be reached at cas1040x@hotmail.com. Happy Filing! Are you looking for income tax filing or employer's quarterly tax filing? Whatever your answer, I would recommend checking the QuickBooks' ProAdvisor listings (http://proadvisor.intuit.com/referral) for a ProAdvisor who specializes in taxes.
Personal referrals can be helpful, also; ask your friends, family, or neighbors where they get help and how they feel about it.
If you're a do-it-yourself type without complex tax concerns, you may be able to use a mass-market preparation and filing product like TurboTax or TaxAct. Information is available online and you can usually prepare your return for free and just pay for filing.
If you need advice on more complex tax questions, I belong to a networking group with many knowledgable members from all over the country. Leave a message on my site and I'd be happy to provide some referrals.

Name Brand companies like H&R; Block generally charge per form for preparing a tax return and they usually try to sell you extras like audit insurance. Stay away. They are usually handled by someone who has only alittle tax experience. CPA's are not always knowledgable about taxes. Many handle audits and bookkeeping. Plus, they are generally expensive. More so than brand name places.
Here at the Tax & Wealth Group our professionals have been handling tax returns and IRS issues for years. THis is our main business. Also, our prices are generally 30-40% less than Brand name places and others. FEel free to contact us anytime.Answered by Tax and Wealth Group Inc 2380 N.
