How to Waterproof a Gazebo
Many people like gazebos in their lawn to use like a tent. Gazebos usually have a canvas that comes with a waterproof sealant when you buy it. It's a good idea to waterproof the canvas yourself about once a year because the manufactures sealant will wear off after about a year.
Things You'll Need:
- Sandpaper
- Rust Inhibiting Spray
- Tarp
- Face Mask
- Waterproof Spray
- Remove the canvas from the frame. Lay the canvas on the ground. Place a tarp on the ground to protect the canvas from mud and water. Each type of gazebo will probably have a different way of removing the canvas. Refer to your owner’s manual if it came with one or ask a representative at the store you bought it from.
- Check the frame of the gazebo for any signs of rust. Sand the any rusting spots with sandpaper and spray a little rust inhibiting spray paint. Make sure you don't spray near any small children or pets, as the chemicals can be a little overwhelming. It might even be a good idea for you to wear a face mask to protect yourself from the chemicals.
- Apply waterproof spray to the entire canvas. There will probably be several types of waterproof spray available in your local home improvement store. Make sure your read the directions for each type or have a representative at the store help you pick out the best brand for your gazebo.
- Allow at least several hours for the waterproof spray to dry before you reattach the canvas.
