There are a number of strategies in dealing with stain removal in carpets.  Speed in removing the stain is key, as is the specific technique in cleaning the stain.  Many consumers have some common questions when it comes to proper stain removal.  Proper application of some simple techniques can help keep your carpets looking their best.

Q: What is the most important factor in removing carpet stains?
A: Speed.  Cleaning the stain as quickly as possible is the key to ensuring that the stain will not permanently damage the carpet.


Q: What is the best technique for removing fresh carpet stains?
A: Blot the stain first removing as much liquid as possible.  A commonly used solution is ¼ teaspoon of mild dishwashing liquid and 1 quart of water to create your cleaning solution.  White vinegar can be used as well, particularly to remove stubborn odors.


Q: How do you identify pet urine stains?
A: Use a black light.  The urine will become fluoresce under the ultra violet light. 


Q: What is the best way to remove pet urine stains?
A:  A vinegar and water mixture can be a great way to remove the stain and odor.  Use half a cup of white vinegar, and mix with one and half cups warm water.  Blot the mixture over the entire stain and let it soak for about five minutes.  Rinse with water, and blot dry.


Q: Can synthetic and natural carpets fibers be cleaned using the same methods?
A: No.  Natural fibers such as wool have to be cleaned with special care and attention so as not to damage them permanently.  While chemicals can be used in cleaning synthetic carpet fibers, this is not recommended for natural carpet fibers.


Q: What is the best way to remove ink from fibers?
A: Use a spot cleaning gun.  These machines spray water or another cleaning solution onto the surface of the material with the stain.  The spray action of the gun aids in the breakup of the stain.


Q: What are the different methods for cleaning carpets?
A: There are several methods.  Some of the most popular are: steam cleaning, dry compound cleaning, shampoo cleaning, vacuum cleaning, and spot cleaning.


Q: What causes yellow cast in carpets?
A: This is typically caused by overly aggressive detergent.  Detergents with a pH of over 10 can cause yellowing.
