How to Decorate a Room in Oriental
Oriental decorating is very stylish and also quite simple. Part of the beauty of this type of decorating is that it uses different Oriental pieces, but still has a very open concept. By using a variety of Asian wall coverings, furniture, rugs and accessories any room can have the look and feel of the Orient.
1. Get Rid of Clutter
Start by removing everything that isn't absolutely necessary to keep. One aspect of the charm of Asian decorating is that everything has a place and if it isn't functional, it isn't needed. If you have items that are still in good condition, but you no longer want or need them, consider donating them to charity.
2. Changing Furniture
Replacing your furniture with Oriental furniture doesn't have to be expensive. Some used furniture stores sell very nice Oriental furniture. You may even be able to sell your current furniture and still have a profit after purchasing the Oriental furniture you need. This is primarily due to Asian decorating not including many large pieces of furniture. Instead of a large couch, the Oriental style can be a smaller futon style. Instead of chairs, you may also choose to purchase some large cushions made out of brightly colored Asian material.
3. Get Creative with Colors
If you prefer to decorate your room in a Chinese style, use lots of reds and other vibrant colors. If you want to go with a style that is more Japanese, choose neutral tones such as tans or grays. Regardless of which Asian style you choose, you can also bring life to the room with a variety of plants or greenery. Placing live bamboo plants or bonsai trees throughout the room gives an instant Oriental feel.
4. Floors, Walls and Accessories
Now it is time to add a few additional pieces to give your room a completely Oriental appearance. Find a nice Oriental rug to place in the center of your room. It doesn't have to be an expensive genuine Oriental rug. Many discount stores sell beautiful replicas that will look just as lovely. Hang up some Asian artwork on your walls. A large Oriental mural would look perfect on a wall or door. You can also try your hand at making a few paper lanterns to hang in the corners of the room.
