How To Remove a Mustang Rear Bumper

The body style of a Mustang is an American classic, but there are times that repairs need to be made, such as after a wreck or even a relatively minor fender bender. This may involve something serious, like major body work, or something as simple as changing out a bumper on a Mustang, which can be done with the proper steps.

  1. Open the trunk of the car.

  2. Pull back the carpeting of the car, pushing it forward away from the opening of the trunk.

  3. Remove the plastic coverings from the backlights.

  4. Locate two bolts behind each of the taillights inside the truck.

  5. Loosen the bolts in order to move the bumper for minor adjustments. To remove the bumper, unscrew the bolts completely out. At this point, the bumper is still held on by brackets.

  6. Locate screws at the back of the wheel arches. These screws attach the wheel arch cover to the bumper. Remove these screws and the bumper will be ready to move. Simply slide the bumper back and it will come off.
