How to Unclog a Kitchen Sink

You can unclog a kitchen sink without using a commercial cleaner, which can harm the environment and damage your sink. You can avoid calling a plumber and save some money by unclogging the kitchen sink yourself. This article will instruct you on how to unclog a kitchen sink.

How to Unclog a Kitchen Sink




  1. You will need a sink plunger, wet rag, hand auger, bucket, plumber's wrench, scrub brush, and mild liquid soap.


  2. Try to break up the clog by running hot water down the drain for 10 to 15 minutes. If this does not work, continue to Step 3.


  3. Clog the sink's overflow opening with a wet rag. Fill the sink with a small amount of water. Position the plunger over the drain and proceed to plunging. This should break away the clog. Continue to Step 4 if the clog has not loosened after an hour.


  4. Insert a hand auger into the drain. Turn it in a clockwise direction until it difficult to turn. Pull out the hand auger in a counterclockwise direction once the clog has broken up. Run hot water down the drain. Continue to Step 5 if they hand auger does not work.


  5. Place a bucket beneath sink. Remove the drain trap from the sink with a plumber's wrench. Allow all of the water to drain. Insert the hand auger down the drain and follow the directions in Step 4. Clean the drain trap by soaking it in warm water and a mild liquid soap. Use a brush to clean it. Rinse the drain trap and replace it.
