Computer Technicians Hourly Wage for Computer Repair

A computer repair problem can be a frustrating experience. Taking your computer to a computer repair shop can become quite expensive. Often, you can get the same knowledge and information for a lesser cost by taking your computer to a private computer technician.  These technicians may set their wage in a variety of ways.

Charge By Hourly Wage

Private technicians will often estimate the time it will take to fix the computer problem and charge accordingly. This hourly wage is often what they would make in a computer repair shop.

Set a Fixed Rate

Many private technicians are choosing to set a fixed rate for common problems. This method has benefits for the customer and the technicians. Sometimes it won’t take very long for the technician to fix the problem, and other times it takes longer than expected. This evens out over time. A customer likes to know exactly what they are going to pay, as this eliminates surprises in the bill.

Charge a combination rate

This is the most common way for computer technicians to charge for their time and expertise. Usually, the technician will estimate the cost to troubleshoot the problem and fix it. This estimate will be close to their hourly wage. The customer will be charged a fixed rate that is based on an hourly wage.

When additional problems arise, there are a few ways to handle it. If the technician is charging an hourly rate, then that rate will continue for additional problems. If the customer is charged by a fixed rate, the technician will usually consult the customer and name a different quote. Charging a combination rate is handled the same as a fixed rate.
