I am trying to determine what size central air conditioner I need for my home? 
My home is 3265 square feet and would like to know what size central air condioner I require. I believe it would be somewhere between 3ton and 3.5ton. Does anyone know how to determine?

Let me start by saying get a professional to do a load analysis of your house. Never estimate the size by square footage alone. Square footage means nothing! It's only about 1/3 of the calculation. A load analysis takes sensible and latent heat into account. If you do not evaluate this correctly (as close to what the space actually needs) you will either undersize or oversize the air-conditioner. This can easily be achieved (incorrect sizing) by assuming square footage. That calculation essentially determines the insulation value of the space, i.e... What is the heat gain of the space, what are some other prevailing factors like room equipment, solar gain or natural shading? What about the construction of the house? A brick house with 12 inch thick walls is a better insulator than 1/2 plywood with siding. It's something to be taken seriously. If not you'll find that the equipment either runs all the time because it can't maintain comfort during high demand, breaks down frequently due to excessive stress on the system, whether it's too big or small. Everyone knows what happens to an undersized unit, but an oversized unit will end up damaging the compressor or lead to misdiagnosed refrigerant problems. Most techs will assume the system is undercharged and put more refrigerant into the circuit, not only costing you more money to add refrigerant but potentially harming the compressor. There’s much more to be said about this but if you want to do it yourself expect higher than normal energy bills and a potential for excessive break downs! There’s a reason why they are called “Professionals”.

Several approaches here-
1st, you can calculate approximately 15-19 BTUs per square foot. That puts the size of your air conditioner at approximately 4 ton. There are however many factors that are not calculated into that 15-19 number such as window quality, insulation quality, how the sun hits the house9 facing north or south), height of ceilings, etc.
2nd option is to have a contractor come out and do a heat load calculation for your home, even if you have to pay for the service (some contractors do this for free with an estimate) it will be well worth the investment. This will tell you exactly how many BTUs you need for the air conditioning.
